(14) 3 novembre 1737 (1) : À la Royal Society :
The translation of a letter from M[onsieu]r Clairaut to Dr Mortimer, dated at Paris Sept[ermbe]r 15 1737 [cf. 15 septembre 1737 (1)] was read.

He speaks of the event of experiments in the North for proving the figure of the Earth to be of the form of an oblate spheroid; expresses his grateful sense of the favour of being proposed candidate for election, and promises to communicate another memoir he is preparing as soon as his present occupation will permit him to finish it.

Thanks were ordered (RS, JBC 16, p. 131).
Mortimer adressera les remerciements de la Royal Society le jour même (cf. (14) 3 novembre 1737 (2)).
